Vibrations Magazine : Could you talk about the unreleased songs by the Jackson 5 which are still sleeping in the vaults?
Harry Weinger : (He takes out a CD stack from the drawer: Jackson 5 Rare Number 1, Jackson 5 Rare Number 2, Jackson 5 Live At The Forum) : The Corporation made, with the Jackson 5, a superb cover version of "Mama Told Me Not To Come ", a song which, at that time, was competing with a song by the Jackson 5 for the top of the charts. "Mama Told Me Not To Come" is very touching because it tells the story of kids who are at a party they should not be, and then someone tells them a dirty thing: "We have stolen your keys! You can't go! " And the boys lament: "My mother will kill me, I habe to go home, Mama told me not to come." "Mama Told Me Not To Come" spotted number 1 which was formerly by "The Love You Save" by the J5, hence the idea of them recording a cover version.
I mentioned "If I Can not Nobody Can not" part of the tracks that have filtered from internet before I was in charge. "Would You Would You Baby" which is in the vaults under a different title, "Love Trip", "Making Life A Little Easier For You", another song from The Corporation. There is also a cover of "What's So Good About Goodbye" sung originally by the Miracles.
On our CD I Want You Back! Unreleased Masters there is a song titled "Love Call", for which we also have another version with the same instrumental, but with completely different lyrics, and re-recorded a few months later when Michael's voice was being transformed, which probably explains it was never released. This version is incredible, but we had to make a choice for the CD and our small committee chose the first version of "Love Call".
Next year, maybe we will release an expanded version of the CD and we'll put the second version of "Love Call" for people to compare.
As for the "Live At The Forum", there are two shows, recorded in 1970 and 1972, which are quite different. In 1970, the songs were longer, the group talked between songs, they last night, while in 1972 they had more hits like "Sugar Daddy" or "Mama's Pearl" and Michael sang his own songs, along with Jermaine.

I highly recommend the J5 Unreleased Masters CD (discussed here), it's the best posthumous package of MJ music available right now. An expanded version of it (perhaps in a 2 CD set) would be very welcome to collectors and MJ fans in general.

cool if more stuff comes out, but I never like buying 'version 2' of something I already have with 1 extra track on it.

Awsome news. Thanx for posting JohnC:)

I get what you're saying, but I'm willing to buy the version 2. Gotta hear the 2nd version of Love Call. Can't wait for the live album as well!

Sounds like they went with the sound where Michael had more of kid's voice. I think, from the 2nd version, you might be able to hear more of the Forever Michael era voice. I adore that voice tone. It's a shame his voice during the period was not appreciated like that. Like he once said, they want you to remain as a cute little kid when you start out as a child star in showbiz.

I love live albums.

Can't wait for it to be released.

Sounds interesting :) Thank you for posting JohnC

Yes yes.. it's not the same without Michael

No it's not, but though the pain is big, we can look to the future with new releases.
Would you like to think all day about don't having michael around you or to think you could get some new material released.
If you keep saying 'it's not the same without Michael' then life will be alot harder. Please look forward to new releases rather than keep you depressed:yes::angel:

Completely Agree:yes: Its really amazing.

I love all the unreleased J5 songs;there are so many in so many different styles because all the changes they made during the course of the work. Its no wonder Michael was such a perfectionist, he grew up in an enviroment where nothing short of superb was expected of him. Its slightly discomforting to be aware of this and to know that he was working so very very hard from such a young age. At the same time though, although Michael expressed his wishes to have had a chance to be a kid he never never stated he regretted how things turned out. I take comfort in that.

Live At The Forum - press release
By Yoann, 13/05/2010

The Jackson 5 Live @ The Forum is a new 2-CD set released June 22 that uncovers an amazing chapter from the phenomenal career of Michael Jackson and his brothers in the J5: their extraordinary performances from the Los Angeles Forum, recorded in June 1970 and August 1972—the first at the start of their rapid ascent to stardom, the second when they became established icons. These brilliant shows have not been released in any form until now, the 40th anniversary of the 1970 show.
The Jackson 5 Live @ The Forum features earth-shaking live performances of the group’s best-known hits – “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” “I’ll Be There,” “Never Can Say Goodbye” and more. Single B-sides “I Found That Girl” and “I’m So Happy” and such surprises as album cuts “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “Zip A Dee Do Dah,” plus songs not released by the J5, including covers of James Brown’s “There Was a Time” and the Isley Brothers’ “It’s Your Thing,” are part of the shows. The 1972 show also features a fantastic, full set of Michael’s solo hits, including “Got To Be There” and “Ben,” his brand new single at the time, as well as a solo spot by Jermaine.
Disc 1 includes the complete Forum show recorded June 20, 1970, when the group broke existing box office records at the venue. The J5 were on their first national tour, and the show is a unique document of the growing “Jacksonmania” gripping the globe. Disc 2 is the complete show from August 26, 1972, just three days before Michael’s 14th birthday. Each disc includes a bonus track: an unreleased full live version of “Mama’s Pearl,” from the concert that became part of the 1971 TV special Goin’ Back To Indiana, closes Disc 1; “I Wanna Be Where You Are,” from the soundtrack album to Save The Children, makes its CD debut at the end of Disc 2.
The Jackson 5 Live @ The Forum is housed in a collector’s digi-pak with rare photos and insightful liner notes.

GREAT RELEASE!

So nice tracklist, a live DVD og even better Blu-Ray would be perfect!

I'd like to hear that instrumental album Tito recorded at Motown that was never released.

It's a great foretaste before November :)
There's definitely too few live releases by MJ/J5/The Jacksons.
