Oh my god

I worked from 12-9 today and got home a little less than an hour ago, to be greeted with a police report. Some nineteen-year-old guy tried to break into my house this afternoon.

Around 2:00, my one brother was sleeping and my mom was in another room, when suddenly they heard glass breaking. My brother bolts out of bed and runs into the kitchen and sees some guy standing outside the sliding door, trying to unlock it from the inside. He'd broken the glass with a baseball bat. He looks at my brother and then just starts walking away calmly. WTF?

My brother's on the phone with 911 when my mom comes in and sees the guy from outside another window. He turns to look at her, then starts walking away again. She was able to give a spot on description of him and he was arrested shortly afterwards. He'd tried to get into a few other houses in the neighborhood. Apparently he was so stoned that he was totally incoherent with the police. They're familiar with him. <_< He rode over two miles to here on a stolen bike that he left in our yard.

So now there's a big tarp covering the door and blood on the outside of the house (from him reaching in through the jagged opening ). 'Tis the season!

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

EDIT: It gets better. My brother found a Facebook profile for the guy and found out that he's an employee of UPS. My dad spoke to a UPS driver that he sees on a regular basis and informed him of the situation. The guy immediately called his superiors to let them know what had happened. Apparently UPS was aware of the guy's previous history of break-ins and substance abuse, but continued to have him in their employ. Maybe that will finally change now.

Now here's the irony of the whole thing. The reason my dad sees this driver on a regular basis is because they both deliver to the same Air Force base. And who is my dad employed by? FedEx!

EDIT yet again: The good news just keeps on coming!

Well, according a story in the local papers, and on our local ABC affiliate, he is also the suspect in two arsons this year (one near my place of work) and a train crash! He stole a car and left it on the train tracks, where it was struck!

I can't express how grateful I am that there were family members home when this occurred. Otherwise, I might not have a house right now!
