I was listening to 'Someone Put Your Hand Out' - I feel this one is pretty insightful to MJ's mind.

"I've lived this life pretending
I can bear this hurt deep inside"

- MJ may be referencing his personal struggles, or the hounding of the media.

"Someone put your hand out
I'm begging for your love
All I do is hand out a heart that needs your love"

- All MJ wants is someone to offer love to him, as he finds it so hard to seek out. He feels loved by the world but lonely at the same time.

"The truth is I'm been longing
A love that's so divine
I've searched this whole world wishing
She'll be there time after time"

- MJ longed for someone to love, he's had/will have a history of failed romances/unrequited love, but MJ was not willing to give up on finding someone.

I really think this song alludes to the love MJ was desperate for but had so much trouble finding - I think an absence of romantic love in his life did hurt him a lot and was something he never felt he achieved.

So, what do you think MJ's most introspective song was? Care to offer your insights?

I've always loved that song and I loved your analysis. Stranger In Moscow is the first songs that came to my mind. Its topic is similar to SPYHO's, as he also talks about loneliness. I'm So Blue (one of my favorite songs by him) also talks about that topic and also gives some introspective into his mind. Those are the only ones that I could think at the moment. Oh and Will You Be There!

Stranger in Moscow has always made me deeply sad when listening to it. It's a great composition but the lyrics are so hard hitting - you can tell they are coming straight from MJ's heart. One of the most harrowing lines I find in the song is:

"Take my name and just let me be"

It's a true rejection of what his name has become in the media and such a simple plea to be left alone. :(

Edit: ALSO, this line:

"Swift and sudden fall from grace"

I really think this line describes MJ's perception of his fame - he was once one of the most beloved superstars (he still was to an extent) but the media and the world had turned on him in his darkest days, they really put him on the highest pedestal and tore him down without hesitation.

Most of history is introspective, but the biggest one has to be Childhood.

I think an absence of romantic love in his life did hurt him a lot and was something he never felt he achieved.

I don't think it is only about romantic love, but love in general.

Always wanting something for nothing
Especially what they don't deserve
Reaching in my pocket
I just got to stop it
Even though they got a lot of nerve

Am I in a bad situation
People taking me to the extreme
They don't use rejection
So I need protection
To keep my equity

So I took my problems to a doctor
So he could check it out, he don't know
Took it to a palm reader so she could
Read my hand, she don't know
Five minutes later I started to understand
I started screaming, shouting, acting mad
No one could help me but myself
But I gave everything I had

Things I Do For You

Also:

"That's What You Get (For Being Polite)"

Jack still cries day and night
Jack's not happy with his life
He wants to do this
He wants to that
You want to be kind but ends up flat for love
For love

[Chorus:]
He tries so hard to give a lot
He wants to be what he is not
But love's not harsh and love's not bad
So what's he doing for love is so sad
He wants to be so bad
He wants to be so bad
All the time getting in
Things he can't get out
Something deep inside of him
Eatin' up the pride of him
That makes him buy things for the girls
That's what you get for being polite
For being polite

Jack still sits all alone
He lives the world that is his own
He's lost in thought of who to be
I wish to god that he would see just love
Give him love

[Chorus]

(Jack still) tryin' to make you happy but
(Jack still) tryin' to make you happy but
(Jack still) tryin'to make you happy but it's love, but it's love
(Jack still) tryin' to make you, but don't you know he cries
(Jack still) don't you know he's scared
(Jack still) it's often for his love
It's for his love
Don't you know he often cries about you
He cries about me
He cries about you (you) and me (and me)
And every little thing that's in his way
He cries about me
He cries about you (you) and me (and me)
He knows he deserves to cry

[Chorus]
